TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE ASSESSMENT (TSIA)
The TSI Assessment is a program designed to help institutions determine if students are ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. This program also will help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet the students' needs to help them become college-level ready.
If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment — unless you are already exempt — to determine your readiness for college-level work. Based on how you perform, you may either be enrolled in a college-level course that matches your skill level or be placed in the appropriate developmental course or intervention to improve your skills and prepare you for success in college-level courses.
Taking the TSI Assessment
Before you take the TSIA, you must participate in a mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) unless you have already completed a PAA at TSTC or another institution. The PAA will stress the importance of the TSI Assessment, provide practice test questions, developmental education options, and available campus and community resources. Please click on a location below to complete and submit a PAA.
Steps on taking the TSI:
Meet with an Enrollment Coach to determine if you need to take the TSIA
Schedule and pay your exam. (May take 5-6 hours if you are planning to take the entire test)
Bring a valid form of photo identification
Bring your referral form issued by the Enrollment Center
Bring your PAA completion certificate or confirmation email
Take your test
Receive your score report at the conclusion of your test

For special accommodations, please contact Disability Services at least two weeks prior to your test date. Please be advised late requests will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.
After the Test
You’ll receive a score report at the conclusion of your test. Bring the score report with you when you meet with an Enrollment Coach at the Enrollment Center. The Enrollment Coach will help determine the appropriate level of coursework or intervention you need based on your results.
If your scores do not meet the minimum standards for college readiness, you will need to take developmental courses until you reach the required level to be college-ready. You can retest at any time, but testing fees apply. Before you retest, take time to review and study materials.
