Mechatronics

Do you like to fix things - or build complex things? Do you like variety in your work? Then the Mechatronics (MTT) Program at TSTC West Texas might be right for you.

When you graduate from the MTT program at TSTC West Texas, you'll be able to install, maintain, and repair industrial equipment and a wide variety of residential and commercial appliances. Although MTT instructors focus on industrial factory equipment, the skills you learn in this program are also skills needed in many other career fields such as the oil and gas and wind energy industries. Just think of being part of the team that erects the huge wind towers rising up around the state. Both wind energy and the oil and gas industry have a great demand for employees who have the skills you can develop in the MTT program.

Just a few of the employers who have hired our graduates include:

  • 3M
  • Kohler
  • Superior Essex
  • Chevron

Everything you learn in the MTT Program is hands-on. Whether you have a project requiring a lathe or a milling machine, you'll use that machine to complete your work. Under the guidance of your instructors, who have extensive industry experience, you'll learn the math, the industry techniques, and the professionalism necessary for success in the workplace.

The skills you'll develop in the Mechatronics Technology Program involve installing and troubleshooting systems such as

  • Mechanical drive systems (usually gear, chain, or belt drives)
  • Electrical controls
  • Fluid power systems (hydraulic and pneumatic systems)

When you finish the program, you'll be very versatile in terms of the skills you have. You'll have the basics in machining, mechanics, welding, drafting, and fluid power. Depending on whether you choose to pursue an associate's degree or a certificate of completion, some of the courses you'll take are:

  • Precision Tools and Measurements
  • Basic Lathe
  • Basic Milling Operations
  • Basic Electrical Theory
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics
